What Happens on Defender Conversion Fitting Day? A Complete Walkthrough
Share
Booking a rear seat conversion is straightforward — but if you’ve never had specialist work done on your Defender before, it’s natural to wonder what actually happens on the day. Here’s a complete walkthrough of the fitting process, from dropping your vehicle off to driving away.
Before the day: what to bring
You don’t need to prepare your vehicle in any special way. Just bring it to your booked fitting centre at your confirmed appointment time. It’s helpful to have the following with you:
- Your order confirmation email (or order number)
- Your booking confirmation with the fitting centre address and time
- Any notes or special requests you mentioned when booking
The fitting centre will have your order details and the correct conversion kit ready before you arrive.
On arrival
When you arrive at the fitting centre, our technician will greet you and confirm the details of your conversion. They’ll do a brief pre-fit condition check on the vehicle — noting any existing marks or damage before work begins. This protects both you and the fitting centre.
You’ll hand over the keys and the fitting team will get started.
How long does the fitting take?
Most rear seat conversions are completed within a single day. The typical timeframe is 3–6 hours depending on the vehicle model and whether additional accessories are being fitted at the same appointment.
In most cases, you can arrange to be collected and drop back in later, or if you’re local, the fitting centre can let you know when the vehicle is ready. We’ll confirm timing when you book.
What the technicians are actually doing
The conversion involves removing the load area trim, preparing and installing the seat mounting system to the vehicle’s floor structure, fitting the certified ScotSeats rear seat unit, installing and testing the seatbelt anchorage points, and refitting the interior trim to a clean finish.
Every step follows the manufacturer-approved fitting procedure for your specific vehicle. This isn’t an improvised process — it’s a defined, certified installation carried out the same way every time by trained, authorised technicians.
If you’re also having accessories fitted
If you ordered body styling parts, wheels, or tyres to be fitted at the same appointment, the team will work through these alongside or after the conversion. Combining work saves you a second visit to a fitting centre — one of the main advantages of booking accessories with your conversion.
Browse our Defender accessories range before your fitting date if you’d like to add anything.
Collection and handover
When the work is complete, the technician will walk you through what’s been fitted, demonstrate the rear seat fold function, and confirm everything is working correctly. You’ll have an opportunity to inspect the vehicle and ask any questions before you take it away.
The conversion is road legal as soon as it leaves the fitting centre. There’s no break-in period or further steps required.
After the fitting
We’ll follow up by email after your fitting to check everything went well and to ask for your feedback. If you have any questions or concerns after collecting your vehicle, contact us and we’ll get it sorted.
